Training-Cum-Input Distribution of Khasi Mandarin Seedlings for West Siang District Farmers’ Under North East Council (NEC) Funded Project

10th July 2019, Wednesday: One day “Training-cum input distribution of Khasi Mandarin seedling for West Siang District farmers under North East Council (NEC) Project” was organized by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Arunachal Pradesh Centre, Basar at ICAR Groi Farm on 10th of July, 2019. The programme was chaired by Dr. H. Kalita, Joint Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Arunachal Pradesh Centre, Basar. In his presence, a total of 1800 numbers of Khasi Mandarin seedlings was distributed to 15 farmers from West Siang District. The farmers were given training on package of practices of khasi Mandarin for proper orchard establishment. They were also shown the scientific management of insect pests and diseases in Mandarin orchard. Other training programme included organic waste management as a source of manure, intercropping of legume vegetables in between rows of Khasi Mandarin to prevent loss of fertile top soil and soil nutrient management in Khasi Mandarin orchard to achieve optimum yield from judicious use of nutrient. The interaction session between scientist and farmers was productive with the active participation from both the parties. The farmers appreciated and anticipated for such kind on training to enhance their knowledge and improve their livelihood.
